#Brazil, desert, Lençois Maranhenses.
This unique natural phenomenon is so far from reality that it is easy to mistake it for a Mirage. What is Lençóis? Lençois Maranhenses national park in the state of Maranhão in Northern Brazil. It is located in close proximity to the equator next to the Atlantic ocean. The area, covering approximately 1,000 square kilometers, is covered with snow-white sand dunes up to 40 meters high. At first glance, the park looks like a typical desert, but it is not. Since Lençois Maranhenses is adjacent to the Amazon river basin, it is subject to regular precipitation – 300 times more precipitation than in the Sahara! From January to June, heavy rains fall in the Park, and water accumulates in the valleys between the dunes before it can go into the ground. As a result, we get a cosmic landscape — snow-white sand dunes stretching beyond the horizon, diluted with fabulous blue and turquoise lagoons.
