 The Maldives is located southwest of the island of Sri Lanka, at the equator. Numerous coral reef Islands, 1,190 in total, form an archipelago of 26 natural atolls (groups of neighboring coral Islands). These 26 atolls are divided into 19 administrative districts with the capital island of male being the 20th administrative district. When viewed from the air, atolls and Islands form beautiful pictures against the blue depths of the Indian ocean.
