Osinovetsky lighthouse, which today is a favorite vacation spot for St. Petersburg residents, was a guiding star for the besieged Leningrad a little more than half a century ago.
It has been more than a hundred years since it first illuminated the surrounding territories with its light. Forty kilometers away, you can see the radiance that comes from this stone giant. The lighthouse rises 74 meters above sea level. The highest point is reached by a spiral staircase. The number of steps is equal to the number of days in a leap year — 366 of them. During its long history, the walls of the lighthouse were covered with mold, but to this day, the 500-watt lamp at the top sends signals from April to November every four seconds.
