🇨🇴Colombia, Andes

The Andes is the longest and one of the highest mountain systems on Earth, bordering the entire South America from the north and west; the southern part of the Cordillera. In some places, the Andes reach a width of over 500 km. The average height is about 4000 m.

The Andes are a major interoceanic watershed. To the east of the Andes, the rivers of the Atlantic Ocean basin flow. The Amazon itself and many of its major tributaries originate in the Andes, as well as the tributaries of the Orinoco, Paraguay, Parana, the Magdalena River and the Patagonia River. To the west of the Andes flow mainly short rivers belonging to the Pacific Ocean basin.

The Andes also serve as the most important climatic barrier in South America, isolating the territories to the west of the Main Cordillera from the influence of the Atlantic Ocean, to the east — from the influence of the Pacific Ocean.
