🇷🇺The Kuril Islands are a chain of islands between the Kamchatka Peninsula and the island of Hokkaido, separating the Sea of Okhotsk from the Pacific Ocean with a slightly convex arc.

 The length is about 1200 km. The total area is 10.5 thousand km2. To the south of them is the state border of Russia with Japan. The islands are of great military, strategic and economic importance. They are part of the Sakhalin Region of Russia.
