The snow-white dunes in the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses) are one of the main natural attractions of northern Brazil. The undulating landscapes of the reserve, resembling snow drifts from a bird's-eye view, are formed by natural lagoons and sand dunes. The relief is formed and changes under the influence of winds blowing from the Atlantic coast; strong gusts form dunes up to forty meters high.
