🇫🇷France, Verdon Gorge
The Gorge of Verdon (Gorges du Verdon) is located in Haute-Provence, between the villages of Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. A unique natural wonder combines picturesque natural attractions, opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities and a great place for swimming.
The territory called Provence today was under water several hundred million years ago. The sea was drying up, forming huge layers of limestone. A fast-flowing river later joined the process, which washed away limestone and gradually began to turn the place into what today we call the Verdon Gorge.
The length of the gorge is 19 km, the depth is more than 700 meters, making it the deepest in all of Europe. The width varies along the entire length, ranging from 200 meters to 1.5 km. Here, the whiteness of the cliffs, the greenery of plants and the azure of the river create an incredibly beautiful landscape that attracts thousands of tourists every year.
