The beach is so poetically called because of the numerous pieces of ice scattered here and there on the black velvet of volcanic sand. Colorful icebergs of the most intricate shapes and incredible sizes are crowded on the black shore. Icebergs arrive on the black beach from the Breidamerkurjokull glacier.
