Mexico 🇲🇽, Bakalar Lagoon

Bacalar Lagoon is the second largest freshwater lake in Mexico. The lake is unique, if only because it houses a colony of stromatolites, the rarest coral-like organisms - an ecosystem of bacteria of the Precambrian period. And yet - right in the lagoon itself there are three cenotes up to 90 m deep. The water in the lagoon is extremely clean, warm and surprisingly changes its colors - silver, bluish, turquoise, aquamarine, blue, green - shades, the color of the water in the lagoon depends on the time of day and the weather.

The second largest freshwater lake in Mexico, Laguna Bacalar, is located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo about 40 km north of the state capital, the city of Chetumal. The lake got its name in honor of the city of Bakalar located on its shore, the oldest settlement of Quintana Roo. The word "Bakalar" from the Mayan language translates as "Surrounded by reeds".
