Austria 🇦🇹, Hallstatt City
Hallstatt is a picturesque fairy–tale town located on the shore of Lake Hallstattersee on the slope of the mountains. The place is absolutely amazing: it seems that time has stopped here.
It resembles rather not even a city, but a cozy village: the population is less than 1000 people, the area is about 60 square kilometers.
Tiny houses surrounded by greenery, medieval elegant churches, unhurried lifestyle of local residents… By the way, Hallstatt is considered one of the oldest villages in all of Europe.
The history of the settlement dates back about three thousand years and is associated with the development of local salt caves. The first written mentions appeared in 1311, but very little is known about that period due to the secluded location of the village.
Most tourists go to Hallstatt in the summer, in summer the temperature stays at around 15 °C.
