🔶The island of Mainau is the third largest island in the waters of Lake Constance, administratively belonging to the land of Baden—Württemberg, also known as the "Island of Flowers". The island, owned today by the Swedish Bernadotte family, has an area of 45 hectares, and is connected by a ferry line and a pedestrian-automobile bridge to the city of Constance.

🔶The history of the settlement of the island dates back to Roman times, in the Middle Ages it belonged to the knights of the German Knightly Order. The extensive landscape park that the island is famous for today was created in 1932 by the ancestor of the current owners — Count Lennart Bernadotte. The park has an extensive collection of plants, including many varieties of orchids, palms, citrus, bulbous, roses, chrysanthemums and other garden flowers from different parts of the world.
