Italy🇮🇹, Florence, Ponte Vecchio Bridge

🔶The Ponte Vecchio Bridge is among the top most famous sights of Florence. Ponte Vecchio was built in the XIV century, it connects the two banks of the Arno River at the narrowest point. The ferry has been here for centuries. The ancient Romans were the first to build a wooden bridge on stone piles at this place. The structure was destroyed by a flood in 1117. The bridge was built anew, using only stone during its construction. A new flood in 1333 destroyed it as well. The familiar view of the Ponte Vecchio was received in 1345. Architect Neri di Fioravanti designed a reliable but elegant three-arch structure.

🔶The Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge in Florence that has preserved its medieval appearance. Today there are jewelry shops open here. By the way, the prices here are very high. The Ponte Vecchio Bridge must be admired from the shore. The best view is from the embankment or from Michelangelo Square.
