Northern Ireland 🇬🇧, Giant's Causeway
🔶This road or path of giants was formed many millions of years ago during a volcanic eruption. Huge lava flows came to the surface and quickly solidified, leaving behind giant basalt vertical columns. Researchers have counted more than 40 thousand such columns, most of which have a regular hexagonal shape, some are seven- or octagonal. The highest of them is 12 m high and forms a kind of springboard. Gradually, this road becomes lower and goes under water. In 1986, the Giant's Causeway was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a year later its territory became a national nature reserve of Northern Ireland.
🔶There are quite a lot of tourists here, but only during the period from late spring to early autumn. At other times, visitors are not allowed on this trail, because it can be dangerous for their lives.
