🔶Carcassonne Fortress is a medieval citadel located in the French city of the same name. It stands in the old part of the city, on the right bank of the Od River. This is one of the most interesting fortresses in Europe. Around it there is a double row of fortress walls, about 3 km long, over which 52 towers rise. At one time, Carcassonne fortress was considered the most impregnable in Europe. On its territory are the Count's castle of Komtal and the Basilica of St. Nazarius and Celsius. Since 1997, the fortress has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
