Russia🇷🇺, Kabardino-Balkaria, Maiden Braids waterfall
The Chiranbashi-Suu waterfall (which means "maiden braids" in the Karachay-Balkar language) is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Elbrus region.
Water falling from a huge height (about 30 meters), beautifully "crumbles" in flight in long streams, resembling the hair of some local Circassian beauty. Such an unusual effect is due to the fact that the water flows here through particularly strong rocks — basalt rocks, where it fails to break even a small trough for itself. In fact, it falls vertically from smoothed rocks (they are called "sheep's foreheads" here), thus creating a magnificent cascade.
The width of the Chyranbashi-Suu water stream is almost 15 meters. The waterfall is "fueled" by Gara Bashi, a melting glacier, one of the 23 glaciers of Elbrus. Below, the water that has fallen from the slope flows into the Kara-suu River.
