Indonesia🇮🇩, Kelimutu volcano

Kelimutu is a volcano in Indonesia with three colorful lakes, located on the island of Flores. The people of Indonesia consider this area a national treasure, and each of the three lakes has its own characteristics and its own color. Kelimutu is a popular tourist attraction. The last known eruption took place in 1968.

In many guidebooks to Indonesia, it is written that the bright colors of the Kelimutu lakes are explained by the deposits of certain minerals. On the one hand, this is true, but the color of water in lakes depends not least on the oxygen content. When there is not enough oxygen in the lake water, it appears green, on the contrary, when there is an excess of oxygen, the lakes turn a shade of dark red, almost black. Kelimutu Lakes are a stunning natural phenomenon that you simply cannot miss!
