Antelope Canyon is a complex of several independent canyons located in the northern part of Arizona near the border with Utah. "Antelopes" are the so—called "slit canyons" - narrow channels of bizarre geometry that have arisen as a result of erosion caused by seasonal floods and underground processes. Changes in lighting cause ever-changing variations in shapes and colors inside the canyon; it is one of the most frequently photographed places in the world. 
The depth of the "Lower Antelope" reaches 37 meters (approximately twelve floors), the length is 407 m. The variety of shades of stone — red, orange, purple — is explained by impurities of various iron oxides. 
The age of the Navajo sandstone rocks is 174-191 million years, but the canyons themselves were formed much later, only a few hundred years ago. Undoubtedly, the process of "canyon formation" continues now.
