Angola 🇦🇴, Namibia 🇳🇦, South Africa 🇿🇦, Namib Desert
The Namib Desert is the oldest desert on Earth, located in the Namib Naukluft Park, the fourth largest nature reserve in the world, covering an area of 49,768 square kilometers. The name "Namib" in the language of the Nama people means "a place where there is nothing."
Namib stretches for 1,900 km along the Atlantic Ocean coast through the whole of Namibia to the mouth of the Oliphants River in South Africa. From the ocean, the desert goes deep into the continent at a distance of 50 to 160 km to the foot of the intracontinental plateau; in the south it connects with the southwestern part of the Kalahari.
Near the ocean coast, the air temperature rarely drops below 10 or rises above 16 degrees. In the interior of the desert, the summer temperature reaches 31 degrees. In those places where the cool sea breeze does not reach — from the windless sides of the dunes or in deep canyons — the temperature can rise above 38 degrees.
