Italy 🇮🇹, Sirmione
Sirmione is a city in the province of Brescia in Italy on the picturesque Lake Garda. Sirmione can rightfully be called the pearl of Lombardy and one of the most popular tourist centers of Northern Italy. The historical center of the city is located on a peninsula that seems to cut into the lake.
The territory of Sirmione and the coast of Garda was inhabited already in the Bronze Age. And the Romans turned the city into a place of rest.
The iconic landmark of Sirmione is the Scaligerian Water Castle. Built in the 13th century in the lake harbor, this is a real outpost with powerful walls and towers connected by stairs and passages. The tallest tower is 47 meters. There is an observation deck on it. Previously, the entrance to the castle was protected by a suspension bridge. Currently, the bridge is permanent. It connects the historical center and the new districts.
