Scotland 🏴, Dunrobin Castle
Dunrobin Castle is deservedly considered one of the most majestic and beautiful castles in Europe.
This is a magnificent mansion in the Sutherland district, which, in turn, is located in the north of the Highlands on the east coast of Scotland. It is the seat of the Earls of Sutherland and the Sutherland Clan.
Most of the modern building was built by Sir Charles Barry, architect of the Palace of Westminster in London, and dates back to 1845. The result is a beautiful castle in the style of the French Renaissance, surrounded by beautiful parks and gardens, but in the courtyard you can see the preserved elements of the original medieval castle.
The castle has 189 rooms, making it the largest house in the Highlands.
The first mention of a castle built on this site dates back to 1401. Probably this castle was built on the site of an older fortification , from the top of which you can monitor the surroundings.
