Sukhothai (เมืองสุโขทัย) is a city in Thailand, the ancient capital of the kingdom of the same name, the center of the province of the same name. The population is 80 thousand people. The city was founded in 1238 as a Khmer settlement. After a short time Sukhothai becomes the capital of an independent kingdom that has existed for 120 years.

The ruins of the ancient capital began to be restored after 1988, and now you can visit the Historical Park at a short distance from the new city. Sukhothai Historical Park on the site of the ancient capital is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site 12 km from the city. The remains of about 200 temples of the period when Sukhothai was the capital are preserved in the park. Si Satchanalai Chaliang Historical Park on the site of the ancient city is located 30 km from the city along Highway 101, there are many impressive temples and palaces of the Sukhothai Kingdom period in the park.
