USA 🇺🇸, Vanonta Gorge

The appearance of the Vanonta Gorge seems to have descended from the pages of fantasy books.

High basalt walls, completely covered with a thick layer of moss, thickets of ferns and multiple lichens – probably, fairy-tale dwarfs and elves live in such places.

Vanonta is part of the Columbia River and there are even four waterfalls in the gorge, so the local flora is rich in unique aquatic plants. The territory of the gorge is protected by the US Forest Service.

An arm of the Vanonta River (Oneonta Creek) passes through the gorge. There are four large waterfalls on the river. The middle Waterfall of Vanonta (Middle Oneonta Falls) is clearly visible from the path and is often confused with the upper and lower waterfalls. The lower part of the gorge is protected, so there are no passages on the bridge and paths.
