China 🇨🇳, Beijing, Temple of Heaven

The Temple of Heaven is located in the south of Beijing in the central Dongcheng district and is one of the main symbols of the city, a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. In 2005-2006, due to the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, the complex was reconstructed at a total cost of 47 million yuan.

Originally it was the place where the emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) held a ceremony of worship of Heaven. It is the largest and most representative example of an ancient sacrificial temple in China. Built in 1420 under the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the Temple of Heaven was expanded and rebuilt during the reigns of the Ming Jiajing Emperor and the Qing Qianlong Emperor.
