Sacred Mount Agung is a picturesque natural landmark and the highest peak of Bali, as well as a stratovolcano that causes Balinese sacred awe. The inhabitants of the island believe that Agung is a copy of Mount Meru, the mythical central axis of the universe.

The height of the Agung volcano is 3031 meters. The diameter of the crater is 520 × 375 meters, the depth is about 200 meters.

From recent eruptions, a high column of smoke first rose from the mouth of Mount Agung in 2017 on November 21, and the active phase of the eruption began on November 25. The height of the plume is up to 4 km . There were also less significant eruptions in 2018 and 2019.
