The Vasconcelos Garden Library, also called the Megabiblioteca, is located in the center of Mexico City (Buenavista district, Cuauhtemoc). It is named after Jose Vasconcelos, philosopher, politician, former president of the National Library of Mexico.
Vasconcelos is a cyclopean structure made of steel, concrete and glass, surrounded by greenery and water, in the center of which is suspended the skeleton of a gray whale. Glass walls, asymmetrical floors, an intricate network of balconies and paths between endless bookshelves allow visitors to literally get lost in book worlds.
