Neuschwanstein Castle is built in the Bavarian Alps, on a rock 92 meters high. This is one of the most famous castles of Ludwig II of Bavaria, who is sometimes called Ludwig the Mad.

Literally, Neuschwanstein translates as "The New Swan Cliff", and in general the castle is named after the Swan Knight from Wagner's opera Lohengrin.

Every year, the castle attracts the attention of about 1.3 million visitors, which makes Neuschwanstein one of the most famous royal buildings in the world.
