Ecuador 🇪🇨, the Devil's Nose railway
"Nariz del Diablo" or "Devil's Nose" is the name of a special section of the railway that runs through the Andes in Ecuador.
The cliff got its name from the locals, who considered this place cursed. During the construction of the railway, more than two thousand people died here. The reasons for this were frequent seismic activity, yellow fever, diphtheria, attacks of wild animals and other accidents.
This dangerous section was built by prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment. Basically, these are Jamaicans and Puerto Ricans who, after the successful completion of the work, were promised clemency.
