The Rocinha Favela is located on several slopes near the Atlantic Ocean. Local residents have been building up the slopes with houses made of improvised materials for several decades.

According to various estimates, from 100 to 300 thousand people live in the Rocinha favela, no one knows the exact data. This is the largest favela in Brazil and it is located almost in the very center of Rio de Janeiro.
