Giant drawings in the desert depicting animals and various objects - Nazca Lines - were discovered in 1939, when American archaeologist Paul Kosok flew over the plateau by plane.
They consist of more than 800 individual shapes, including animals, people and various geometric shapes. The sizes of the figures range from a few meters to more than 300 meters in length, and some lines extend for several kilometers.
Regarding the time of the creation of the lines, scientists agree — until the XII century, when the Incas appeared in the valley. Most studies attribute their creation to the Nazca civilization, which inhabited the plateau until the 2nd century AD.
