Costa Rica's rich biodiversity makes the country an attractive destination for ecotourism. 

There are 74 nature reserves on an area of just over 51 square kilometers, including national parks, waterfalls, volcanoes, mountain and river valleys with unique flora and fauna, underwater caves with rare representatives of the underwater world. In general, protected areas occupy a third of the entire area of the country.
