Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, or simply Chamonix, is a city and commune in eastern France, in the department of Haute-Savoie.
Chamonix is located in the Alps, in the narrow valley of the Arve River (a tributary of the Rhone), at the foot of the Mont Blanc mountain, in which a tunnel was dug near Chamonix connecting France with Italy.
This is one of the oldest ski resorts in France, popular among climbers and mountain walkers. In 1924, the first Winter Olympic Games were held in Chamonix.
