Izmir is the largest city on the Aegean coast of Turkey and the second largest port in the country after Istanbul.

Ancient Smyrna - the name Izmir bore in the ancient period - was founded by the Greeks in the 3rd millennium BC. e. For such a long time, the city managed to be under the rule of the Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans.
