The “City of the Dead” in the province of El Minya is a necropolis over 2.5 thousand years old.

Archaeologists have discovered tombs in the area belonging to priests of Thoth, the ancient god of the moon and wisdom.

Also in the province of El Minya there is the ancient cemetery of Zawyet el-Mayitin (“Land of the Dead”). This is the largest graveyard in the world, where the dead have been buried since the times of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs.
