Switzerland 🇨🇭

Murten (German: Murten, French: Morat) is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Switzerland with an idyllic popular-pop appearance.

It is located next to the lake of the same name, 30 km west of Bern. The city got its name from the Celtic “moriduno”, which means “fortress on the shore of a lake”.

Murten is remarkable primarily for its old town, which has remained virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages, where the fortress wall remains intact, as well as the “city-forming” castle-fortress, founded in the 13th century and then rebuilt several times. Most of the houses in the old town date from the 15th to 18th centuries.
