Paraty, Brazil 🇧🇷
Paraty is one of the oldest cities in Brazil, it was founded in 1597, and became a Portuguese colony in 1667. Paraty means “fish river”, translated from the language of the local Guayanas Indians☀️
Paraty was an important port from which gold was transported first to Rio de Janeiro and then to Portugal. The Golden Path, a 1,200-kilometer road, was built especially for the transportation of gold. Soon this road was abandoned because pirates became more active in the region, so gold began to be transported straight to Rio de Janeiro.
Now Paraty is a small town that attracts local and foreign tourists not only with its ancient streets, but also with the opportunity to spend time in nature: visit neighboring islands and waterfalls, swim in the sea, dive 🤿
