⛰️ Meteora (meaning "suspended in the air" in Greek) is a series of massive rocks with one of Greece's main sacred sites, the Meteora monasteries, perched on their summits. These inaccessible, world-separated peaks became a refuge for hermits as early as the 11th century. In the 14th century, the first monastic communities emerged here, six of which are still active today.
