Underwater Mountains & the Azores Archipelago

Over millions of years, volcanic activity in the oceans has formed hundreds of underwater mountains. Among them, the islands of the Azores Archipelago stand as the tallest.

🌋 The Azores are a unique archipelago, formed by volcanic activity along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This tectonic boundary is where the Eurasian and North American plates meet, making the region a hotspot for geological activity.

🌊 The Azores are known for their stunning landscapes, from lush green hills to dramatic cliffs, and even volcanic lakes. The archipelago is also home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including many endemic species found nowhere else on Earth.

🌍 Interestingly, the Azores are one of the few places on Earth where you can see the effects of plate tectonics firsthand. The islands are constantly changing due to volcanic activity and seismic events, making them a living laboratory for geologists.
