A closer look at where Russia’s advance is slowing, and where attacks are increasing.

As a curfew in Kyiv, Ukraine, ended on Thursday and rescuers dug through the rubble of an attack on a theater in the southeastern city of Mariupol, Western intelligence assessments said that Russian forces were making minimal movement toward capturing additional Ukrainian cities, although they were broadening attacks on civilians.

Residents of Kyiv described a relatively quiet end to a 35-hour curfew that ended on Thursday morning.

In Kharkiv, Ukrainian forces have held off Russian efforts to fully surround the city, though shelling has left much of it in ruins. And in Kherson, a Black Sea port where Ukrainian forces have been mounting a counteroffensive, the Ukrainian General Staff said on Wednesday that one of its airstrikes had destroyed at least seven Russian helicopters.
