Zelensky says Ukraine will create a group to analyze the effectiveness of sanctions.
In his nightly address on Monday, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said that his office would create a group of experts this week to analyze the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia, which he has said do not go far enough.
“Our goal is for the sanctions to work as intended, and so that there is no possibility to circumvent them,” Mr. Zelensky said in a translation of his remarks shared by his office. “This must be a goal for the whole democratic world, without exception. No exception.”
Countries and businesses supporting Ukraine have used sanctions to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. While those sanctions have been successful in isolating Russia economically and socially, they have not cut off one of its main sources of revenue: oil and gas.
“Ukraine cannot and will not agree with the passive sanctions position of some entities towards Russia,” Mr. Zelensky said.
