Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Ukraine’s president in Kyiv.
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine posted a video on Sunday of him meeting with Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, and calling the United States a leader in supporting his country’s fight against Russia.
Ms. Pelosi’s office confirmed the trip, which was not announced in advance, likely for security reasons, in a tweet after Mr. Zelensky’s post.
“We are visiting you to say thank you for your fight for freedom, that we’re on a frontier for freedom and that your fight is a fight for everyone,” Ms. Pelosi said to Mr. Zelensky in the video. “And so our commitment is to be there for you until the fight is done.”
Ms. Pelosi was joined by Gregory W. Meeks of New York, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Jim McGovern of Massachusetts; Jason Crow of Colorado; and Adam B. Schiff of California, the chairman of the Intelligence Committee.
