A U.N. rights official says cases of Ukrainian men being executed or sent to camps have been documented.

With fighting raging in eastern Ukraine 10 weeks into the battle against Russia’s invasion, the top human rights official at the U.N. told the Security Council on Thursday that her staff had documented scores of cases of Russian forces targeting male civilians around Kyiv.

Some were beaten, detained or executed, and some had been taken to detention camps inside Russia and Belarus, said the official, Michelle Bachelet.

Ms. Bachelet said her office had recorded 180 cases of forced disappearance of officials, journalists, activists, civilians and retired servicemen and eight cases of pro-Russian individuals who had disappeared.

Tetiana Luzan, a representative of Ukraine’s civil society, spoke to the Security Council by video, appealing for more assistance in documenting the atrocities committed by Russia. “Each life is priceless,” she said, “and relatives deserve to know the truth.” Read more
