The U.N. warns Russia that show trials of P.O.W.s would constitute a war crime.
Russia and its proxies in eastern Ukraine would be committing war crimes if they go ahead with show trials of prisoners of war, the United Nations said on Tuesday, urging Moscow to allow independent observers access to detainees.
Officials in the United Nations human rights office were reacting to photos and video that have emerged of giant metal cages being built on the stage of the philharmonic theater in the occupied city of Mariupol in apparent preparation for some form of tribunal to try captured Ukrainian soldiers.
