Ukrainian troops inched closer to recapturing the eastern city of Lyman on Saturday, having entered villages on the outskirts of the Russian-held rail hub and threatening supply lines there.
The battle for Lyman, a city in Donetsk Province with a pre-war population of 20,000, has quickly turned into a poorly timed sideshow for the Kremlin following its internationally decried annexation of parts of Ukraine on Friday and Ukraine’s stunning victories in the country’s northeast last month.
