The United States signals urgency to deploy an air defense system to Ukraine that it uses to protect the White House.

With Russia once again showing its willingness to rain down missiles on civilian targets across Ukraine, pressure is mounting on the Biden administration to speed up its deployment of weapons to the country — including an air-defense system that the United States uses to help protect the White House.

A White House spokesman said on Tuesday that the Biden administration was working to deliver the first two of eight National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, or NASAMs, that Washington promised to Ukraine late last month. John F. Kirby, the strategic communications coordinator for the National Security Council, told reporters that the systems would provide short-to-medium range coverage over anywhere from 30 to 50 kilometers.
