Rescue and evacuation efforts continue in an expansive area of southern Ukraine flooded by the destruction of the Kakhovka dam on Tuesday, as an additional mass displacement and humanitarian disaster unfold in the midst of war.

It is not clear what caused the damage. Ukraine blamed Russia, saying that there had been an explosion in an engine room. Russia said that Ukrainian forces had carried out sabotage.
