As international investors rally behind the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC), long-standing domestic challenges continue to cast a shadow over Philippines' industrial ambitions.
“It’s a chicken and egg problem,” says Dr Jayant Menon, visiting senior fellow at the Iseas-Yusof Ishak Institute. “[The Philippines] doesn’t have these investments because it doesn't have the kind of infrastructure that reduces business and logistics costs, but it needs that infrastructure in order to attract the investment.”
