Sequoia capital опублікувала звіт про ринок штучного інтелекту
Generative AI's Act Two: Sequoia Capital, a major venture capital firm, recently released a report on what has happened to the AI market over the past year and what to expect next 📊 Here are some key points.
Sequoia is a fund with $85 billion in assets and one of the early investors in Apple, Google, and Instagram.
The firestorm came 🔥
No one expected everything to happen so quickly. In generative AI, we have reached a modern marvel, our generation's space race.
ChatGPT's rise was the spark igniting an innovation flame that we have not seen in years — perhaps since the early days of the Internet. ChatGPT was the fastest application to reach 100M MAU — and it did in just 6 weeks.
AI excitement turned to hysteria 🤯
Suddenly, every company became an "AI copilot." The $100M pre-product seed round returned.
Artists, writers, and singers challenged the legitimacy of machine-generated IP.
And perhaps most worryingly, the AI products fell far short of expectations, as evidenced by low user engagement. While some top consumer companies have 60-65% DAU/MAU and WhatsApp has 85%, generative AI apps have a median of 14%. This means users are not finding enough value in Generative AI products to use them daily yet.
The second act begins 🎬
Despite the uncertainty, generative AI has successfully launched in the market. Act 2 will solve human problems end-to-end — AI's evolution from technology hammer to use cases and value.
Companies will use foundation models as a piece of a more complex solution for different industries rather than the entire solution — AI for law firms, AI for the workplace, AI personal assistants.
💬 The biggest challenge is proving value. The $200 billion question: how is the created infrastructure going to change people's lives?
A huge market is emerging right now. It's worth remembering Amara's Law: we tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run.
