AI Pin — a new gadget with built-in ChatGPT to replace your smartphone
The startup Humane, founded by former Apple designers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, announced on November 9th the launch of their first product — a smart pin for $699, which is worn on the lapel of a jacket.
💬 The AI Pin is designed to replace a smartphone, allowing you to make calls, send messages, translate speech in real-time, and search information using voice commands.
The Pin’s primary job is to connect to AI models through software the company calls AI Mic. The previous reports suggested that AI Pin was primarily powered by GPT-4 🤖
Humane says that ChatGPT access is actually one of the device’s core features. Its operating system, called Cosmos, is designed to route your queries to the right tools automatically rather than asking you to download and manage apps.
👀 The device is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and uses a camera, depth, and motion sensors to track and record the surroundings.
It also has a laser display, which turns your palm into a mini screen, where you can show the time, date, or nearby objects. The built-in camera can recognize objects and provide information, like the number of calories in food.
The AI Pin attaches to clothing or other surfaces with a magnet. The magnet also acts as a battery, so you can replace it during the day to keep the AI Pin working.
Microsoft and CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman previously invested in the project.
