For a week now, part of our team has been visiting California, right in its heart — Silicon Valley 💻

I want to share my first impressions.

1. It's all about AI — on the way from San Francisco to the Valley, you can't help but notice the billboards: Generative AI, Enterprise AI, Customer AI… it's all about AI. Here, it's believed that if your company doesn't become an AI company within the next 3-5 years (in terms of using AI in processes and products), it essentially won't exist anymore.

2. A Different Future — In November 2022, the world changed with the release of ChatGPT. Some compare this to the invention of the internet, others to the invention of writing. Humans gained the ability to communicate with machines and influence the world in natural language, without special skills. To create an image of California hills with a "Welcome to California" sign, I no longer need to be an artist, a designer, or a programmer — I just need to say it. And this magic is so natural that we already take it for granted. While everyone agrees that things will be different now, no one knows exactly how.

3. A Big Goal. I liked a quote from a venture capitalist:
If in the past humanity's brightest minds thought about how to make you click on ads more often, now they're thinking about how to make machines conscious.
It's cool to have a big goal. OpenAI, Google, xAI, and Amazon are all competing for the best engineers. People at OpenAI work 60-70 hours a week, and when you ask how they feel, they say:
It's tough, but you live with the thought that the person changing the world right now is me.

4. ChatGPT? Nope, never heard. Meanwhile, more than half of the adult population in the US has never heard of ChatGPT. And this is in the US. People have made important, but only initial steps towards a general artificial intelligence. The most interesting things are yet to come 🔥
