⚡️⚡️⚡️ Sam Altman returns to OpenAI as CEO with a new board of directors
OpenAI posted on Twitter:
We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D'Angelo.
Altman's statement:
i love openai, and everything i’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. when i decided to join msft on sun evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team. with the new board and w satya’s support, i’m looking forward to returning to openai, and building on our strong partnership with msft.
Elon Musk:
Nice marketing stunt
Former president Greg Brockman, who resigned in protest of Altman's firing, will also return.
The power struggle continues - OpenAI will have an expanded board of directors to 9 people, which will reset the company's governance, sources tell The Verge.
Microsoft, which has invested $11.3 billion in OpenAI, plans to take a seat on that expanded board, as does Altman himself.
Recall that following Altman's dismissal, Greg Brockman announced his departure from the company. 95% of the company's employees signed an open letter demanding Altman's reinstatement, threatening to resign otherwise.
